Duct Leakage · Rough & Final

Duct leakage testing

The test almost every HVAC permit in California needs. We pressurize the duct system, measure how much air escapes, and tell you on site whether it passed.

How the test works

We seal every supply register and the return, connect a calibrated fan to the system, and bring the ducts up to the test pressure. The airflow the fan has to supply to hold that pressure is the leakage. The manometer shows the reading live, and that reading is what goes on the report.

A single system is usually under an hour on site. Houses with several systems take longer, and we give you a realistic window when we book.

Rough or final

A rough test happens while the ducts are exposed. If something is leaking, the connection is still in reach and the fix costs a roll of mastic and twenty minutes. A final test happens once the system is complete and running.

New construction usually needs both. On a change-out the existing ducts are tested at final, which is where most surprises show up, because nobody has looked at those connections in decades.

If it fails

You hear it from us on site, with the number and how far it is from the limit. When we can see where the air is going we show you. Your installer seals it, we come back and retest, and nothing gets registered until it passes.

How it works

  1. 1Tell us about the job

Address, scope, and where you are in the permit. Two minutes by phone or text.

  2. 2We schedule around your build

Rough and QII while the framing is open, final once the system runs.

  3. 3Testing on site

Calibrated equipment and a straight answer on the spot.

  4. 4Report and registration

Report plus the signed CHEERS certificate, the same day.

Common questions

How long does a duct leakage test take?

A single system is usually under an hour on site.

Does someone need to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and the system needs to be accessible. Many contractors just give us a lockbox code.

What happens after a failed test?

We tell you on site what missed and by how much. After the fix we retest, and the certificate is filed only once it passes.

Need a test scheduled?

Call or text with the address and where you are in the permit. We will come back with a time and a price.
